上海航宇科普中心是从事航空航天科学普及教育的事业单位，于1984年5月开始筹建，1989年6月正式对外开放，隶属于上海航空工业公司。
上海航宇科普中心目前有室外、室内和其他科普活动3大部分。室外停机坪上展出大型喷气式旅客机、中小型客机、战斗机和直升机、鱼雷快艇、模拟火箭等;一条长140米、宽20米的小型起飞跑道及直径为50米的模型飞机表演区，可起降小型直升机、气球、飞艇等各种轻小型飞行器。室内展厅分3个展区：第一展区介绍世界和中国航空发展情况;第二展区介绍飞机和各种航空设备、实验装置等;第三展区介绍航天发展史和火箭、导弹、卫星等内容。举办的科普活动有航空模型表演及比赛，赛车模型表演，中国早期航空活动展览，组织市青少年航空夏令营，开展校外教育实践活动，开展航空航天科普教育活动和举办展览会等。至1990年底，参观和参加活动约14万人次。
1990年末，该中心共有职工71人，其中工程技术人员26人，具有中、高级技术职称5人;占地面积1.8万余平方米，建筑面积1824平方米;固定资产
